1247. Salvation Made Plain
Salvation Made Plain
The 5th chapter of Romans stands unique among the chapters of the Bible. We are, considering only the opening verses; subsequently we will study the headship of the First Adam and the Last Adam. The verses now before us make the way of salvation plain. They open to our vision statements that are fundamental to a right understanding of salvation.
First. We have the condition of the sinner in his sins. This is all-important. If the sinner is not lost, he does not need to be found; if he is not sick, he does not need a physician.
Second. We have the God of all grace stepping in upon the scene. He is described in His love, and in His great gift, the gift of His Son.
Third. We have the fact of Christ's death. The atonement is set forth in clear and unmistakable terms. There is no place left for that error that has wrecked many a soul–salvation by the deeds of the flesh.
Fourth. We have the marvelous reach of salvation. We are saved from wrath, reconciled to God, and kept safe in His life. This is a consideration of great profit.
Fifth. We have a statement of what the sinner must do–he must receive the atonement. This is followed by what the saint (the sinner saved) will do, he will joy in God and he will glory in tribulations.
Sixth. We have the wonderful results of salvation–peace, access and hope. This means the full fruitage of our precious salvation. We enter into a new realm of heart rest, of fellowship, and of anticipation.
May God bless the study of these things to our growth both in grace and in knowledge.
