1261. The Judgment of God

The Judgment of God

"Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them" (Rom_1:32).

1. The judgments of God are according to Truth. Rom_2:2 : "But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to Truth against them which commit such things.

The very Truth which the unsaved suppress and deny and refuse to obey; the very Truth they resist and from which they turn away their ears, will judge them in that day.

Men may refuse to face the Bible now; they must face it then. Christ said, "The Word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day" (Joh_12:48).

There will be no false decisions, or misplaced judgments–all will be according to Truth.

2. The judgments of God are unescapable. Rom_2:3 : "And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?"

The man who steps out from the Gospel sound–a rejecter of Christ, will some day face Christ. He may cry to the rocks and to the mountains to fall upon him to hide him, but it will be of no avail. There is no escape in the day of Tribulation, there is no escape when the Great White Throne is set. The Record reads: "And I saw the dead, small and great stand * * and they were judged." The sea will give up the dead that are in it, death and hades will deliver up the dead which are in them. There is no escape.

3. The judgments of God are righteous. Rom_2:5 : "But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God."

When the day comes for the final great assize, and the judgments of God are set, there will be righteous judgments. There will be no one who can face the Great Judge and say, "You have been partial, You have treated me unfairly." Everyone will bow the head and acknowledge the righteousness of God's condemnation, God will give to every man just as his acts deserve. All will be judged from the Books, the Books whose records never err.

4. The judgments of God are according to the Gospel. Rom_2:16 : "In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my Gospel."

The Gospel brought life, but its rejecters will meet death. "He that believeth not is condemned." Paul's Gospel included the Lord's death, resurrection and return. The Gospel of Christ's death brought salvation from sin's penalty and those who refuse the Gospel will be judged worthy of death.

Christ's resurrection gave assurance of victory over sin's power to those who take it, and those who live sinful lives fall under the condemnation of the Gospel.

The Gospel of Christ's return brings the believer into all the blessed rewards of grace; but the Gospel will shut out all unbelievers.

It may seem passing strange, but the very message of salvation, when rejected, becomes a message of condemnation.

It is better never to be born, than to be born under the sound of the Gospel and to refuse it. It is better to be a Hottentot, in ignorance of the Gospel which bringeth life, than to be a cultured denier of the Gospel. It is better to be an imbecile, impervious to the Gospel light, than to have two spiritual eyes, wilfully blinded against the Truth.
