Friends–Secret Holders

"Ye are My friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you" (Joh_15:14).

The other names that we have considered have been very precious and very significant, but we have come now to a word that carries us into the very heart life of the Master. Christ says, "Henceforth I call you not servants; the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth * * but I have called you friends."

The word "friend," carries us into the secret counsels of God. God said, "Shall I hide from Abraham the things that I do?" No wonder, Abraham was called the "Friend of God."

Truly, "the secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him."

There is nothing more beautiful to a believer than to know that he is welcomed into the counsels of his Lord, that he holds intimate relationship with Christ, in all His great Word and work.

Unto His friends, the Lord Jesus has unbosomed every great yearning of His soul.

Unto His friends, the Lord Jesus has given the definite outline of all the marvelous plans which the coming ages hold.

We are not silent partners shelved, and set aside, we are active partners; we walk arm and arm with our Lord; we follow Him fully, and we enjoy His confidence.

As friends, secret holders, we must show ourselves friendly.

We should sit near, when He asks us to His feasts, and we should lean upon His breast.

We should tell Him all that is within our hearts and unbosom ourselves to Him.

"I have a Friend, so precious.

So very dear to me,

He loves me with such constant love,

He loves so tenderly.

I would not live apart from Him,

I could not, if I'd try,

And so we dwell together,

My Lord and I."
