1330. The Home
The Home
Pro_31:1-31
Home, a Refuge (Pro_14:26).
Home, and Pure Religion (Luk_1:6).
Home, and Recreation (Isa_11:6).
Home, and Its Remembrances (2Ti_1:5).
Home, and Ruin (Mar_6:24).
Home, and Rewards (Pro_31:28).
Surely it will not be amiss to preach about the home. Some already have homes of their own; others are a big part in the home in which they live; all have homes.
The word "home" carries with it some of the sweetest considerations of our daily life.
It is said during the Civil War that the "Boys in Blue" and the "Boys in Gray" had fallen back behind the ramparts and were resting from active conflict. The bands of the respective armies were playing rival "airs," when from one side the band struck up "Home, Sweet Home." Immediately the opposing line joined in. That was one song which struck a common cord, and they could play and sing together.
It was into a home that Jesus Christ sent a young man with the instructions that he should show what the Lord had done for him.
It is at home that we should first show our piety.
When Elisha met the Shunammite, he said, "Is it well with thee? Is it well with thy husband? Is it well with the child?"
The Prophet thus encompassed everything that was dear to the home life of this great woman who lived–at Shunem.
Abraham was a mighty man of God but there was no place where he manifested his greatness more than in his home. God said of him, "I know Abraham that he will guide his children aright."
