1333. Home, and Recreation
Home, and Recreation
"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them" (Isa_11:6).
The Word of God is not silent concerning the recreation which children need and which should be given them. We have already spoken of the danger of cards, dancing, etc., but there are many truly helpful things which can be done to attract and enliven the home.
When our Lord comes back to earth the boys and the girls will be found playing in the streets of a beautiful restored Jerusalem.
When the Lord reigns as king, when righteousness and peace shall have kissed one another: then the children will play on the hole of the asp, the wolf shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf, and the young lion, and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
Home should be made attractive. There should be games, and music, also plenty of outdoor attractions.
When a boy feels that his home is no more than a boarding house, a place where he eats and sleeps, he is fast on the way to ruin.
We are living in an age when the devil has placed at almost every corner of the down-town districts, something to call the young people away from their homes. Worst of all, these places of amusement are, for the most part, seriously detrimental to morals. The time has come when each home should give more attention to the recreative nature of the children.
