A Search for Wisdom

Proverbs 2-22

Wisdom's Value (Pro_3:14).

The Incapabilities of Worldly Wisdom (1Co_2:6).

Where the True Wisdom Is Found (Job_28:28).

The Key of True Wisdom (Psa_119:100).

Examples of Heavenly Wisdom (Act_4:13).

Wisdom's Warnings (Pro_4:14).

Wisdom's Rewards (Pro_2:11).

Diogenes is reputed to have taken a lantern in the daytime and to have gone forth in search for an honest man.

The Church, in her earliest history, sought for seven honest, wise men whom they might appoint over their business. The record reads thus: "Look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business" (Act_6:3).

If we went out on a search for wise men today, where would we direct our steps? Perhaps we would go to the college or the university. But God says, "Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God" (1Co_3:18-19).

God "taketh the wise in their own craftiness." "The Lord knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity" (Psa_94:11).

All the treasures of wisdom and of knowledge are hid in Christ (see Col_2:3). If then, we are seeking for men of wisdom, we must seek for men of God. "Great men (the great men of this world) are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment."

The object of this message is to study wisdom from the viewpoint of the wisdom that cometh from above, and at the conclusion, to set forth wisdom's voice as it warns the young man against the primrose path, and encourages him to walk in the way of righteousness.
