The Sealing of the Spirit
"In Whom ye also trusted, * * after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise" (Eph_1:13).
There is, in the 5th chapter of Revelation, a book sealed with seven seals, which no one in Heaven or on earth or under the earth could open, save the Lion of the Tribe of Judah.
The redeemed saints of our God, the born again ones, are sealed quite as securely as the seven-seal book. Who can prevail against a child of God? "For the Lord of Hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? His hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?" (Isa_14:27).
The sealing of the Spirit "unto the redemption of the purchased possession," makes us "confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in us, will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."
The sealing of the Spirit is the pledge of our inheritance. "In Whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him Who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will; that we should be to the praise of His glory, who first trusted in Christ.
When Christ lay in the grave a stone was rolled against the tomb; the stone was sealed, and then a watch was placed without to guard the sepulcher. Christ broke that seal, for He was greater than all; but Him that God hath sealed (see Joh_6:27), neither man nor demons can touch.
If God can seal satan for a thousand years in a pit of the abyss, so that satan can by no means get out; He can seal saints unto the day of redemption, against all the machinations of a loose devil, so satan cannot get in.
Praise God, those who have fled to Christ for refuge, have a hope that is "sure and steadfast, and which enters into that within the veil." Jesus Christ our forerunner has already entered in, and we who are sealed of the Spirit will surely follow after.
Every promise of God is yea and amen in Christ Jesus, and "He which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts" (2Co_1:21-22).
