1. When Does the Spirit Enter Our Hearts?
Is it necessary for us to tarry at Jerusalem? Evidently not. That command was for the disciples and it was to be carried out in an upper room in Jerusalem. They did tarry and the Spirit came at Pentecost. From that day those who receive Jesus Christ are baptized into one Spirit, and are all made to drink into one Spirit (see 1Co_12:13).
The Holy Spirit is God's gift to every child of His. We receive the indwelling Spirit because we are sons (see Gal_4:6). Following the coming of the Spirit at Pentecost Peter said: "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost" (Act_2:38).
We receive the Spirit when we receive Christ as our Saviour, and become His children. "If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His" (Rom_8:9). This certainly establishes the fact that if any man is Christ's, he has the Spirit of Christ.
