Job Was Perfect and Upright

"There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job: and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil" (Job_1:1).

Job was not a perfect man in the sense that he was sinless; yet, above all men on the earth, he was the one man who stood forth perfect and upright before God. In this, Job was the type of the Lord Jesus Christ. He knew no sin, He did no sin, and in Him was no sin. Jesus Christ was "a Lamb without blemish and without spot" (1Pe_1:19). Jesus Christ said: "Which of you convinceth Me of sin?" (Joh_8:46).

Christ was not only perfect and upright, but He feared God and eschewed evil. In the wilderness temptation, this is set forth in a striking way. The Lord Jesus Christ feared God, for He said, "Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve;" He eschewed evil for He said, "Get thee behind Me, satan."
