Job Attacked of Satan

"The Lord said unto satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power: only upon himself put not forth thine hand.

"And the Lord said unto satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life" (Job_1:12; Job_2:6).

Under this theme, we wish to notice merely the fact that Job was personally attacked of the devil; the details will be noticed later.

We often hear this expression: "The devil has been after me today." Such words are very foolish. Satan is a personality; while he is at the head of a tremendous and far-sweeping rebellion against the Son of God, he cannot, in person, attack each individual of the human race. Satan, however, did attack Job, because Job stood forth supreme among men.

So also did satan attack the Lord Jesus Christ.

He attacked the seed of the woman before He was born, and then he attacked the Son of God, the seed of the woman, after He was born.

Satan's attempts upon Christ would fill a volume; however, for this study we will merely mention two things, and that without comment: First, the temptation in the wilderness where Christ met the devil and vanquished him; secondly, Christ's death upon the Cross, where He met the devil, his gathered principalities and powers, and triumphed over them, making a show of them openly.

Let us remember that the supreme attempts of satan have always been against God, and against Christ, the Son of God.
