Job Robbed of His Possessions

"While he was yet speaking there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from Heaven and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them" (Job_1:16).

Step by step, Job's possessions were swept away. First of all, while the oxen were plowing and the asses feeding, the Sabeans fell upon them and took them away, slaying the servants with the sword.

Next, the fire of God fell and burned up the sheep, and the servants who watched them, and they were consumed.

Afterward, the Chaldeans in three bands, fell upon the camels and carried them away, slaying the servants.

After that, a great wind from the wilderness smote the four corners of the house where his sons and daughters were feasting, slaying the children and taking the house away.

Then Job "fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, and said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord" (Job_1:20-21).

The type of all this had its fulfillment in the fact that the Lord became poor; everything that He had so far as earthly possessions were concerned, was swept away from Him until He had nowhere to lay His head. Satan despoiled His goods and robbed Him, for the time, of His heirship.
