1389. Job Smitten with Boils
Job Smitten with Boils
"So went satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown" (Job_2:7).
Job knew what it was, not only to lose his possessions, but to suffer in his own body. Satan was not satisfied with taking away his goods, he sought to lay hands upon his person.
This was more than Job's wife could stand, and she said unto him, "Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die" (chap. Job_2:9).
Job, however, replied, "Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?"
The symbolism here carries us to the Lord Jesus Christ and His broken body. He was beaten and bruised and bloody. His head was pressed with thorns; His back was beaten; His hands and His feet were pierced. The Prophet seeing this cried: "His visage was so marred more than any man, and His form more than the sons of men" (Isa_52:14).
