1419. Sin and Its Ravages
Sin and Its Ravages
Leprosy–Sin's Heinousness (Mat_8:2-3).
Fever–Sin's Restlessness (Mat_8:14-15).
Demonism–Sin's Irresistibleness (Luk_8:35).
Blindness–Sin's Darkness (Joh_9:1, Joh_9:7).
Palsy–Sin's Helplessness (Mat_9:2).
The Issue–Sin's Hopelessness (Mar_5:25-26).
Death–Sin's Destructibleness (Joh_11:43-44).
There is a close relationship existing between sin and sickness. We would not suggest that all sickness is due to immediate sin; for Christ plainly said of one born blind, "Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents" (Joh_9:3). However, ultimately, when there is no sin, there will be no sickness.
Sin brings death, a death that is spiritual. Sickness brings death, a death that is physical.
Sin brings sorrow and suffering; sickness brings sorrow and suffering.
Sin can be blotted out, the sinner can be proclaimed righteous. Sickness can be healed–"The Lord shall raise him up" (Jam_5:15).
We wish to discuss various diseases as they seem to suggest and to set forth the sway and the ravages of sin in its varied aspects.
The analogy will not be complete because it will be impossible to consider each sickness spoken of in the Bible, and its analogy in the realm of sin.
The following suggestive types or symbolisms will be used:
Leprosy–suggesting sin's heinousness.
Fever–suggesting sin's restlessness.
Demonical possession–suggesting sin's irresistibleness.
Blindness–suggesting sin's darkness.
Palsy–suggesting sin's helplessness.
The Issue–suggesting sin's hopelessness.
Death–suggesting sin's destructibleness.
