This Cosmos Is Satan's Domain

"The prince of this cosmos cometh, and hath nothing in Me" (Joh_14:30).

There are several Scriptures which plainly show that the present cosmos is under the power and dominion of satan. We will notice these passages one at a time.

1. "The prince of this cosmos cometh, and hath nothing in Me" (Joh_14:30). It is impossible to call the world system Christian. We frequently hear the expression "I live in God's country," or, "A Christian city," or, "a Christian world." Such statements are utterly unreal.

How can the cosmos be Christian, when Christ plainly says that its prince has nothing in Him?

How can the cosmos be Christian when Christ said, "My Kingdom is not of this cosmos" (Joh_18:36)?

How can the cosmos be Christian, when Christ said, "The cosmos hath not known Thee" (Joh_17:25)?

We readily grant that "the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein;" but satan is a usurper, and the cosmos has rejected its rightful owner and has gone over to its enemy.

2. "The whole cosmos lieth in the evil one" (1Jn_5:19, \1911 Bible). The present world system is described in this verse as lying in the lap of the devil, as supinely as a babe lies in its mother's lap. The world is following after the devil, of its own choice and of its own will. It has denied the Lord of Glory, rejected the Lord Jesus, and crucified Him upon the Cross.

The world has not only chosen satan, but also submitted to satan. It is true that the devil has caught the cosmos in his net, that he has bound it, driven it, subsidized it; however, the world has become a willing vassal, and a proud servant of the wicked one.

3. "In whom the god of this cosmos hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving" (2Co_4:4, \1911 Bible).

Satan is the world's god, he is in full authority in the order of things that passes before us day by day. There are some who will wish to deny this, because the Bible tells us that governments are appointed of God and that God places over the nations whomsoever He will. This is true, but it is true only because God circumscribed even satan's activities, and compels the enemy to work out His will While back of all things, and of all activities is the great God; yet, satan holds the world in his hands and he is its god. God has allowed satan this place of authority and of supremacy because He acknowledges the free-will agency of man; He concedes to man the right of his own choice and the far-reaching results of his own perversity.
