1504. This Cosmos Is Composed of World-Born Men
This Cosmos Is Composed of World-Born Men
"They are of the cosmos: therefore speak they of the cosmos" (1Jn_4:5).
1. Christians cannot be spoken of as members of the world system. They are in the cosmos but they are not of the cosmos. "If ye were of the cosmos, the cosmos would love its own: * * ye are not of the cosmos, but I have chosen you out of the cosmos" (Joh_15:19).
2. The unbelievers, the unregenerate compose the cosmos. This is true because they are of the cosmos. Satan is their god, and they are his children. It is necessary for us to guard a clear distinction between those born of the flesh and those born of the Spirit. The men of this cosmos are men of the world, they have never known God, they are not included in God's family, nor reckoned as God's sons. They are children of darkness, sons of disobedience, and children of the wicked one.
3. Unbelievers composing the cosmos are under satan's energizing power. The devil is spoken of as "the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who energizeth the sons of disobedience" (Eph_2:2, \1911 Bible).
The men of this cosmos are walking according to the age of the cosmos, they are living after the flesh, they are fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; they are borne along by the general course of events among which they move.
We often hear men boasting of their freedom and their liberty; the fact is that they are slaves driven of the devil whithersoever he listeth. They have been caught in the great whirlpool of the world system, and they are carried along by its current. Their motto is "Everybody goes, and so do I;" their highest ideal of life is "Vox Populi, Vox Dei"–"The voice of the people is the voice of God." They think that the public conscience speaks forth words of righteousness forgetting that satan is the energizing power which molds the policies, and shapes the destinies of this great world system.
