Christ and the Approaching Day

"And so much the more, as ye see the day approaching" (Heb_10:25).

Sometimes we hear the statement that Moody, Spurgeon, Brooks, or some other beloved saint, looked for the Lord's Coming, but died, and their hope passed away.

This is not true. The saints who are gone anticipate the day of the Lord's return with keenest faith and enlarged hope.

1. Christ is looking forward to the day of His Coming. "But this man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; from henceforth expecting till His enemies be made His footstool" (Heb_10:12-13).

The Lord Jesus longs to come; He is anticipating the day when He shall leave the Father's throne, and descend with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and the trump of God; He is anticipating the day when He shall come to deliver His people Israel, and to cast down His enemies.

2. The saints are looking forward to the day of Christ's Coming. Heb_9:28 says, "Unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time."

Heb_10:23 says, "Let us hold fast the confession of the hope without wavering, for He is faithful that promised."

Heb_10:35-37 says, "Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and He that shall come will come, and will not tarry."

Saints should provoke one another unto love and good works; they should encourage and exhort one another, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, because the day of our Lord is approaching (see Heb_10:25).
