1545. The Message of the Open Window
The Message of the Open Window
"For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and the Coming One will come, and will not tarry" (Heb_10:36-37, \1911 Bible).
There are some special things which the open window seems to say to us.
1. The open window is our confession of the hope. The Book of Hebrews lays particular stress upon this blessed confession. First of all, we read that Jesus Christ is the Apostle and High Priest of our confession.
Again we read of "the confidence and rejoicing of the hope."
Finally we read, "Let us hold fast the confession of the hope without wavering" (Heb_10:23, \1911 Bible).
God knew how many things would seek to call us away from the truth of His coming, therefore He told us: "Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and the Coming One will come, and will not tarry" (Heb_10:35-37, \1911 Bible).
2. The open window is our acknowledgment that we are strangers and pilgrims on this earth. Those who are looking for such things declare plainly that they are strangers and they are pilgrims desiring a better country, that is to say, an Heavenly.
They are in the world, but not of it. Their hopes are set on things above. Their faith gives conviction to the things unseen. They love His appearing.
3. The open window is our confession that a confident anticipation rules our lives. We are not ashamed to throw our flag to the breezes. We publicly declare that we are looking, that we are watching, that we are waiting, the day of Christ's return. Yea, we confess that our love centers around that blessed hope.
If there are those who hear this word to-day, whose windows have been closed towards Jerusalem, we plead with them to become students of the prophetic Scriptures. We urge them to throw open their windows toward Jerusalem.
When Daniel heard that the decree was signed, he opened his window toward Jerusalem and prayed. The Word of God tells us that we should be looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ, and that we should let no man despise us.
The man who shuts his window, because of the threats of ecclesiastical retribution, does not belong to Daniel's tribe.
"Dare to be a Daniel,
Dare to stand alone,
Dare to have a purpose true
Dare to make it known."
