We are so accustomed to studying the Second Coming of Christ from the prophetic Scriptures, both of the Old and the New Testament, that we may forget that this blessed story is indelibly set forth in the lives and deeds of many of the Old Testament saints.
We know that God spoke in the Prophets, and in the saints of old, as well as by them.
In truth, we have been accustomed to portray the first coming of Christ, particularly His Cross and its saving power, through the types of the Old Testament. We have forgotten that practically all of these types, which portray the Cross, include the crown. The very ones which tell of His first coming, proclaim His Second Coming.
The first chapter of Genesis presented in the Garden promise the fact that satan's head was to be bruised; this is a Second Coming prophecy for satan is to be chained and cast into the pit of the abyss at the time of the Lord's Return, and preceding the reign of the thousand years (see Revelation 20).
The Flood, and the resting of the Ark on Mount Ararat, and the repeopling of the earth, is all a type of the Second Coming of Christ.
The Lord said, "As it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of Man."
The Lord's coming will be preceded by a terrific deluge of fiery judgments and indignation. It will be followed by God's own people inheriting and rehabilitating the land.
From the many Bible characters and scenes setting forth the Lord's Return, in the Old Testament, we have picked out seven of the most striking ones.
We trust that the Lord will bless the study.
