One in Imparting Life

"The gift of God is eternal life" (Rom_6:23).

1. God. The Father Imparts Life

"I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live" (Eze_16:6).

"But God, * * hath quickened us" (Eph_2:4-5).

"For we are his workmanship" (Eph_2:10).

If God is life, He surely is the author of life. It is in Him that we live physically, that we have our being. It is in Him that we live spiritually, that we have our new life.

When God passed by Israel, and saw her in all her sin and shame, He said unto her, "Live! live!"

When God the Father saw the sinner dead in trespasses and in sins, saw him walking according to the course of this age, saw him fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, saw him a child of wrath, He quickened him–gave him a new life.

When God the Father put the highest touch upon all of His workmanship, He created the new man; for the new man, according to God, is created in righteousness and true holiness.

2. God the Son Imparts Life

"He that eateth me * * shall live by me" (Joh_6:57).

"He that hath the Son hath life" (1Jn_5:12).

"Created in Christ Jesus" (Eph_2:10).

If Jesus Christ has life, He too can impart life; and He does. He said very plainly: "Because I live, ye shall live." He said: "He that liveth and believeth in Me shall never die."

Surely Christ is our life.

He is the beginning of our life, He is the sustainer of our life, He is the continuance of our life.

3. God the Holy Spirit Imparts Life

"If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit" (Gal_5:25).

"Born of the Spirit" (Joh_3:5-6, and Joh_3:8).

The Holy Spirit also begets life, He begets life because He is life.

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Galatians and said:

"Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?"

It was the Spirit of God Who gave them life.

When Ezekiel saw the valley filled with dry bones, and God gave him promise that they should live, he was called upon to prophesy unto the wind. He prophesied and they lived. The wind was a type of life, by the Spirit, because we read in Eze_8:14 : "I shall put My Spirit in you, and ye shall live."

How blessed that word "live"!

We see again that the Lord our God is one Lord,–a Trinity in unity–because each begets life.
