1594. One in Raising Saints
One in Raising Saints
"That God should raise the dead" (Act_26:8).
1. The Father Raises Up Saints
"The Father raiseth up the dead and quickeneth them" (Joh_5:21).
Why should it seem a thing incredible that God should raise up the dead?
There are many passages in the Bible which set forth the resurrection both of the just and of the unjust. Those who are in the grave shall come forth. This is the decree of the Father, and this will be the climax of His work.
2. The Son Raises Up Saints
"Even so the Son quickeneth whom he will" (Joh_5:21).
The "even so" places Jesus Christ on an equality with the Father.
"As the Father * * even so the Son."
The Lord Jesus stood before the grave of Lazarus, four days dead, and cried, "Come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: * * Jesus said, Loose him, and let him go."
He, who raised up the daughter of Jairus, the son of the widow of Nain, and Lazarus, has the power to raise us up. And this He will do when He descends from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and the trump of God.
3. The Spirit Raises Up Saints
"It is the spirit that quickeneth" (Joh_6:63).
The Father quickeneth, the Son quickeneth, the Spirit quickeneth; the Father is God, the Son is God, the Holy Spirit is God–not three Gods; but three persons, one God.
