1603. One in Giving Rest
One in Giving Rest
"Arise, O Lord God, into Thy resting place, Thou, and the ark of Thy strength" (2Ch_6:41).
1. The Father Gives Rest
"Shall enter into my rest" (Heb_4:5).
There is a rest that remaineth unto the people of God. This rest has been prepared for us from before the foundation of the world. We may even now enter into God's rest, but the fullness of His rest awaits the millennial hour.
2. The Son Gives Rest
"Take my yoke upon you, * * and ye shall find rest unto your souls" (Mat_11:29).
There is a rest which is ours now, as we bear the yoke which the Son of God gives to saints; it is a rest in subjective service. However, that rest will reach its fullest complement and be universally true only in that day when Christ shall rule and reign on David's throne and all men shall bear His yoke.
3. The Spirit Gives Rest
"The Spirit of the Lord caused him to rest" (Isa_63:14).
The Spirit of the Lord would long ago have led Israel into rest, but they refused His Word and tempted Him, Therefore He turned them back into the wilderness.
The Spirit of God will, however, in coming days cause Israel to rest, yea, He will cause all men to rest, even as He hath promised.
In all of this we have a threefold vision of one rest, the gift of God the Father, the gift of God the Son, the gift of God the Holy Spirit the Triune God, one Lord.
