Three Distinct Persons Are Seen in the Baptism of Christ

"It came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, * * the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from Heaven, which said, Thou art My beloved Son; in Thee I am well pleased" (Luk_3:21-22).

In the Scripture above we have first of all the Father speaking,–"A voice came from Heaven."

Next we have the Son spoken to,–The voice said, "Thou art My beloved Son."

Finally we have the Spirit descending,–"The Holy Ghost descended in bodily shape."

Beyond doubt there are three personalities before us. The One Who spake is not the same as the One spoken to; the One Who received the Holy Spirit descending upon Him is not the same as the Holy Spirit Who descended.

The passage declares that there were three persons at the baptism of Christ; the Father was there, the Son was there, the Spirit was there; these three are One, but they are just as truly three.
