Three Distinct Persons Are Seen in the Believer's Access to God

"For through Him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father" (Eph_2:18).

We now are about to consider a passage which has to do with the prayer-life of every believer. There is no doubt that prayer may be addressed to the Son; we may also even seek the Spirit's guidance; but our prayers primarily must be unto the Father, through the Son and by the Spirit.

The Lord Jesus Christ said, "No man cometh unto the Father but by Me."

Surely the One Who gives us access, and the One to Whom access is given must be distinct personalities. So also the Holy Spirit Who enables us, and Who directs us in our speech as we come to the Father, must be a distinct personality from the Father.

We do well in our prayer-life to keep this in mind. We should always approach the Father in the name and upon the merits of Christ and by the aid and strength of the Spirit: three persons–one God.
