Three Distinct Persons Are Seen in a Gracious Redemption Word
"How much more shall the Blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the Living God?" (Heb_9:14).
We have in the Scripture above, Jesus Christ offering Himself to God through the eternal Spirit.
There is no possible way to make one person out of the three personalities set forth in this striking quotation. The Living God, Who received the sacrificial offering of Christ, is wholly distinct from the dying Son Who made the sacrifice. The eternal Spirit, through Whom Christ is offered to the Father is differentiated from both the Father and the Son. The Spirit is not the Son, because He is offering the Son; the Spirit is not the Father because He is offering Christ and His blessed sacrificial work to the Father. In all of this the Father and the Son and the Spirit are the gracious Elohim, the Triune God, of the Old Testament–one Lord.
