Three Distinct Persons Are Seen in a Glorious Word On Sonship

"The Spirit itself heareth witness * * that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ" (Rom_8:16-17).

Rom_8:15 describes the cry of the children of God, "Abba, Father;" Rom_8:16 and Rom_8:17 state that we are "children of God" and "heirs of God." The same verses declare that we are "joint-heirs with Jesus Christ." The Holy Spirit is the One Who bears witness to these glorious facts.

How plainly and distinctively do we see the Father, the Son and the Spirit set forth! It is to the Father we cry; it is the Spirit of adoption whereby we cry. It is of God that we are heirs, and it is with Christ that we are joint-heirs.

This passage establishes the fact that Father, Son, and Spirit are three personalities. We know, however, from the sum of God's Word that the three personalities so clearly set forth, are indeed equal in power, in honor, in glory, and in all the marvelous manifestations of the Godhead: therefore the three constitute one Lord.
