1633. The True Vine
The True Vine
Israel the Vine (Psa_80:8-19).
The Song of the Vineyard (Isa_5:1-7).
A Vineyard of Red Wine (Isa_27:1-13).
An Empty Vine (Hos_10:1).
A Useless Vine (Eze_15:1-8).
A Parable of the Vineyard (Mat_21:33-46).
The True Vine (Joh_15:1-10).
The fifteenth chapter of John contains the story of the vine and the branches, which is one of the most helpful and inspiring messages our Lord ever gave, and yet, it is one of the least understood in some respects.
We must remember in seeking an interpretation of the parable of the True Vine as told in John 15, that we need to know everything that the Old Testament tells us about Israel, the Vine.
Too frequently in the study of Scriptures, the student ponders over an isolated passage, forgetting that the Holy Spirit interprets Scripture by Scripture.
When Christ spoke the parable of the True Vine, He stood between two great epochs; the age of Law and of Israel's favor was passing, Israel had been a false vine. The age of Grace, and of the Church was dawning. Christ taught that Israel had been a false vine because she did not abide in Him. He taught that the Church, if she would be a true vine must abide in Him. He, Himself, was the only Vine which in reality stood faithful to the Father bringing forth fullness of truth.
