1707. The Blood Upon the Horns
The Blood Upon the Horns
"And Aaron shall make an atonement upon the horns of it once in a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonements: once in the year shall he make atonement upon it throughout your generations: it is most holy unto the Lord" (Exo_30:10).
The blood upon the horns of the Altar. It is because of the sins and imperfections of our prayer life, that blood had to be sprinkled upon the horns of the Altar by the priest, once a year.
1. God says in Exo_30:10 that the Altar of Incense was a most holy thing to the Lord. This is God's idea of what prayer is to Him: "A most holy thing." Have we defiled our Altar of Prayer by coming to the Lord while we were harboring wrong thoughts or desires? Have we prayed to God while hiding an unforgiving spirit against some one? Have we prayed to God with a selfish spirit, asking things for ourselves only? Have we prayed to God with a narrow spirit and vision, thinking only of local conditions, while God says, "Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields" (Joh_4:35)? Do we pray for the Jew, the Gentile and the Church of God? Do we pray with an unbelieving spirit? When you pray, believe. Do you pray with an envious spirit against some one because of their success? Do we pray, lacking in thanksgiving, praise, adoration and worship? As often as we do any of these things, we need the precious Blood applied to our prayer life. Thank God, He has a remedy for the sins of our prayer life; may we confess, and use the Blood oftener there, then our prayers will be more pleasing to God, and He will answer them.
2. Apart from the Blood of Jesus Christ we have no approach to God.
"Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the Blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which He hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, His flesh; and having an High Priest over the House of God; let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water" (Heb_10:19-22).
