1722. The Shoutings to the Stone
The Shoutings to the Stone
"Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it" (Zec_4:7).
Zechariah presents a wonderful vision.
He sees a great mountain. This stands for the tremendous obstacles set against the children of Israel.
Then Zechariah cries: "This is the Word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit saith the Lord of Hosts. Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel, thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the Headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it."
While there was an application in this vision to Zerubbabel, there was also a vision of the two witnesses of Revelation 11, and of the return of Christ.
In Deuteronomy we read:
"Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee" (Deu_32:18).
For this cause, the Rock sold them, and the Lord shut them up. They were made to trust in the rock of the Gentiles, the enemies of Israel, and they forsook the Rock of God.
In the day of Israel's sorrow and suffering, their Rock will "whet His glittering sword;" His hand will "take hold on judgment," He will "render vengeance to His enemies."
As the head Stone is seen appearing in the clouds, they who once rejected Christ will cry, with shoutings–"Grace, grace unto it."
In those days, "The BRANCH: * * shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the Lord: even he shall build the temple of the Lord; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both" (Zec_6:12-13).
In those days, "The Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one" (Zec_14:9).
We need not be surprised that the Stone shall be brought in with shoutings and with song.
When Christ came the first time, His own received Him not–when He comes the second time, they will receive Him.
When He came the first time, they placed upon His brow the crown of thorns–when He comes the second time, they will acknowledge His many diadems.
Israel shall hail Him who comes to deliver her.
