19 ONLY DO WHAT THE FATHER TELLS YOU TO DO

19 ONLY DO WHAT THE FATHER TELLS YOU TO DO

Jesus’ modus operandi was to simply say and do whatever the Father commanded. If God didn’t want it said, Jesus didn’t say it. If the Father wanted something done, Jesus did it.

Consider acting like Jesus toward your mate. Give your mate permission at any time to ask you:

“Did the Father tell you to say that?”

“Did the Father tell to do that?”

That question may be asked in the middle of a heated discussion or an angry outburst. That question may be asked whenever something is happening between the two of you that doesn’t reflect God’s purity, truth and character.

Consider this: Acting and speaking like the Father usually requires us to be patient, quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger and eager to surrender our rights instead of defending ourselves.

So often we believe we have the right in a marriage to say whatever we think or feel. But marriage isn’t a license to freely treat the other person as we like. Marriage is a covenant to freely treat the other person in a manner that pleases God.

Try this: Give one another permission to interrupt any action or conversation that doesn’t reflect God’s character with one of the above questions.

I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.

John 8:28–29
