34 PRAY WITH A PURE HEART.
My prayer is pure.
—Job 16:17
Jesus teaches us, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8). To see the invisible requires purity in heart. To see into heaven so that you can pray what’s in heaven to earth demands purity, holiness and a first-love for Jesus.
Purity speaks of moral uprightness. Stop watching, reading, or looking at immoral things. Tear down pornographic vain imaginations. “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded” (James 4:7–8).
Purity speaks of being clean. Cleanse your life from dirty thoughts, actions and works. Stop telling unclean jokes. Resist listening to violent and impure things in music or on TV. Get clean. Stay clean.
Without the purity that comes from repentance and walking in the light, your prayers will be vain and ineffective. Here’s the process: Confession, repentance, cleansing, walking in the light, seeing God. Pure prayer initiates the process.
Purify my heart, my walk and my life, O God. Amen.
