395 – Why la It Wrong to Harbor Angry Feelings?
395. Why la It Wrong to Harbor Angry Feelings?
God forbids it (Ecc_7:9; Mat_5:32; Rom_12:19) ; it is a characteristic of fools and a work of the flesh (Gal_5:20; Pro_12:16; Pro_14:29; Pro_27:3; Ecc_7:9). Anger is connected with pride, cruelty, clamorous and evil speaking, malice and blasphemy, strife and contention (Pro_21:24; Gen_49:7; Eph_4:31; Col_3:8; Pro_21:1g; Pro_29:22), and brings its own punishment (Job_5:2; Pro_19:19). Scripture teaches us that grievous words stir up anger, that it may be averted by wisdom and that meekness pacifies (Jdg_12:4; Pro_29:8, Pro_15:1). We are enjoined to be slow to anger, to avoid those given to it, to be free from it in prayer and not to provoke children to it (Pro_15:18, Pro_16:32; Tit_1:7; Jam_1:19; 1Ti_2:8; Eph_6:4).
