528. What Does "Damnation" Mean?

Damnation, or condemnation, does not always imply the final loss of the soul. Thus the passage in Rom_13:2 clearly means condemnation from the rulers, "who are a terror to evil-doers." 1Co_1:11-29 means that the offender would be exposed to severe temporal judg- merits from God and to the censure of good men. Rom_14:23 means that such a one is condemned already by the Word and by his own conscience. The final loss of the soul of the impenitent, however, is clearly taught in many passages, including Rom_6:23; Mat_25:41; Jam_1:15; Mat_10:1-42; Mat_11:1-30; Mat_12:1-50; Mat_13:1-58; Mat_14:1-36; Mat_15:1-39; Mat_16:1-28; Mat_17:1-27; Mat_18:1-35; Mat_19:1-30; Mat_20:1-34; Mat_21:1-46; Mat_22:1-46; Mat_23:1-39; Mat_24:1-51; Mat_25:1-46; Mat_26:1-75; Mat_27:1-66; Mat_28:1-20; 2Th_1:9; Mat_25:30; Luk_16:23, Luk_16:26.
