6 YOUR CHILD ISN’T A GARBAGE CAN—NO
DUMPING!
Look into a mirror. Tug on your ear. Say out loud to yourself, “This is an ear, not a garbage can.”
The same is true for your child’s ears. Refuse to dump your negative feelings about your spouse, your spiritual leader, or your boss into your child’s ears.
Never dump profanity into a child’s ears.
Be careful not to let TV, radio, CDs, friends, or computers fill your child’s ears (or eyes) with garbage.
Guard the doorways into your child’s life. Their eyes, ears, mouths and touch are sensory inputs that must be kept continually clean and pure by a parent.
We discovered that the phone was becoming a trash source for our children’s ears. Monitor the phone. Set healthy boundaries to protect your children.
Some of the garbage we must keep out of our child’s ears includes:
• Pornography
• Profanity
• Gossip
• Put downs
• Prejudice and racial slurs
• Hateful and angry remarks
• Backbiting
• Cursing
… just to name a few.
I think you understand. The question is, will you refuse to let your ears or your child’s ears become garbage cans?
Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God (2 Cor. 7:1).
