JACOB: MORAL FLAWS

JACOB:
MORAL FLAWS

Looking beyond the household to Jacob’s own person, we observe that he matured with many moral flaws. There were weaknesses in his character beyond the normal.

There was duplicity, there was dishonesty, there was greed. He cheated his own brother. He cheated his father. And he went on to cheat his father-in-law. Jacob seemed to be completely lacking in what we would call common honor. He showed a spirit of disloyalty and faithlessness in dealing with his brother and his father.…

I think we can safely say that the Jacob of those earlier years would have been voted the man least likely to get right with God. If we had been his judge and jury, we would have pronounced him hopeless.

But of all those looking at Jacob, there was One who disagreed. That One was God. God, with His eternal omniscience, saw in Jacob something worthwhile.
