A PICTURE OF PAUL—A BLACKBOARD TALK
[Write—or print—each of the acrostic words as you come to it, and at the close emphasize the initial letters with red chalk.]
Paul had received that wonderful vision of Christ that had struck him blind. He did not know what God meant to do with him, or how he could serve the God he had so offended. What did he do? (Acts 9:11.) Paul and Silas were in prison one night, when an earthquake came and freed them. How were they spending the time in prison? (Acts 16:25.) That was what made Paul so strong, because he was praying all the time. Let us make that word “praying,” stand for the “P” in his name.
Paul was never idle. Let us see. How many missionary journeys did he make? And how many places can you name that he visited, some of them several times? And how many books of the New Testament did he write? And how did he support himself while he was doing all this? Surely we must let the “A” of his name stand for “Active.”
What did Paul give up to follow Christ and help men? He gave up the chance of an easy life,of wealth and fame and honor among men. He gave up friends and kindred. He gave up the pleasures of a happy home. He gave up health and freedom. At last he gave up life itself. And all was done for the sake of other men, and for Christ. Must we not say that the “U” of his name stands for “Unselfish”?
Then how true Paul was to the right! He told Felix and Agrippa and Festus and the high priest and the Athenians and the Jews just what he thought of them. He rebuked men’s sins without fear. He went just where the Spirit told him to go. He spoke just what God put in his heart to speak. He was true to Christ and to Christ’s teaching. Ah, well does the “L” in his name stand for “Loyal”! Here we have it, then:—
