Children, I have drawn a flower on the board. That is one of the beautiful things God has made. I want you to tell me about other beautiful things God has made, and as you tell me, I will write them down under the flower. What do you think of a God who made all these beautiful things? He must be beautiful, too, must he not?
I have drawn next to the flower a great rock. That is one of the strong things God has made. Let us make a list of others. What do all these things tell us about God? That he is strong.
Here, next to the rock, is a house. Let us suppose that it is your home. What are some of the happy things to be found in it? I’ll write them down. There’s love, and pleasantness, and helpfulness, and watchfulness, and a long list besides. But God made your home, and everything in it; so these things, too, tell us about God.
But above all I will draw a Bible. Who is the great Being that this book tells you lived once on the earth, and died at Jerusalem, and rose again? Will you tell me some things about Christ? Yes; he was sympathizing, and kind, and lived for others, and pitied the sick and healed them. Whatever is true of Christ is true of God, for Christ was God in human form.
And so, when you want to see what God is like, you may look at the beautiful, and strong, and loving things God has made, and, best of all, you may look at Christ, who is God himself.
