8 DON’T LET ONE BAD DAY RUIN A GOOD WEEK

“You just ruined my week,” screamed the husband as he slammed the door and bolted toward his car and off to work.

That’s hogwash! Nobody can ruin your day or your week unless you let them. Truthfully, one bad day doesn’t undo all the good days. Think about it. In baseball, an all-star batter may only get a hit one out of three times at bat. Those two misses don’t negate the hit. A.333 batting average is excellent.

Likewise, six great days of sharing, intimacy, growth and progress in marriage should never be negated by one bad day of setbacks or difficulties.

So what if you fail every so often? So what if you or your spouse takes a step back after three or four steps forward? All is not lost. It’s only a hiccup not a heart attack!

My wife, Judi, is a nurse. She often helps people through relational crises by putting things in perspective. She’ll say, “Well, is it life or death? If it’s not life-threatening, you’ll survive.”

Stop making every molehill into a mountain. Don’t escalate a problem into a crisis. After all, life is problem-solving. Get used to valleys and stop expecting continuous mountaintops.

Try this: The next time you or your spouse make a mistake, say, “Remember the last great thing you did? It was_______. It far outweighs this small problem. Let’s forgive, forget and forge ahead.”

If they fall it isn’t fatal,
for the Lord holds them with his hand.
