33 LEAVE AN INHERITANCE FOR YOUR CHILDREN

“I can’t believe it. My kids are starting off where I left off. They have so much more now than we had when we started in marriage. It’s just not fair,” protested the selfish parents.

A bumper sticker common to the area we live in reads, “I’m spending my kids’ inheritance.” How sad. Why would we want to bankrupt the next generation?

We are blessed to be a blessing. Of course, we want our children to start off better than we did. We have made progress through the years. Our desire is to launch them into a new level of spiritual and material prosperity. We leave our children …

A spiritual inheritance of household salvation in which each successive generation knows Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

A relational inheritance for covenant marriage and godly parenting.

A communal inheritance of faith for being a member of the body of Christ.

A material inheritance not just of wealth but of how to create wealth and sow it into the work of God’s kingdom.

A parental inheritance which has broken generational curses and initiated generations of blessing.

A stewardship inheritance so that our children know how to serve Christ and others while being stewards, not possessors, of all the provisions He has given them.

Try this: With your spouse, sit down and write the epitaph on your memorial for which you would like your children to remember you.

A good man leaves an inheritance
to his children’s children.

Prov. 13:22
