39 QUOTE GOD, NOT CLICHéS ABOUT HIM TO YOUR
CHILDREN.
Can you recall all the Scriptures that your parent taught you as you were growing up? In only a few instances have I met adults whose lives are filled with God’s Word based on the Word spoken into and over their lives by parents. On the other hand, I rarely meet an adult who can’t quote a least a dozen clichés that parents frequently showered on them as children.
For example, can you complete some of these that my parents often quoted to me?
Cleanliness is next to __________________________________.
If a thing is worth doing, it’s worth doing __________________.
Don’t start something you’re not willing to _________________.
I brought you into this world and I can _____________________.
You’re driving me _____________________________________.
As long as you live under my roof _________________________.
Children are meant to be seen and not ______________________.
God helps those who ___________________________________.
A penny saved is a _____________________________________.
You probably could complete most of these archaic parent tapes. But if I quoted for you some of the most important “John 3:16” type memory verses, could you complete them?
My point here is simple. Focus on teaching, speaking and quoting God’s Word instead of trite words of men.
Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path. (Ps. 119:105)
