63 PARENTING FOR LIFE IS A GIVEN; BECOMING
FRIENDS FOR LIFE IS HARD WORK.
We’re always parents. But becoming our children’s friends takes hard work.
Our adult children and their spouses are among our best friends. We cherish our time with them. But it takes hard work, lots of time and talking, and continual forgiveness and understanding.
Working on friendship can include these:
• Talking daily on the phone
• Praying together
• Going out to eat together
• Sharing meals together
• Talking about important issues
• Reading books together
• Helping with finances
• Watching the grandchildren
• Going on trips together
• Expressing love in the five love languages
You get the idea. Now add to the list. Talk it over with you children. Make a plan to continually bless and befriend your children no matter how old your or they become.
A friend loves at all times (Prov. 17:17).
