The circumstances connected with this "stone of help" are suggestive of the way into spiritual victory. There was-

1. Conscious Need. "All…..lamented after the Lord" (1Sa_7:2).

2. Confession Made. "We have sinned" (1Sa_7:6).

3. Separation Demanded. "Put away strange gods… serve Him only" (1Sa_7:3).

4. Substitution Acknowledged. "Samuel took a sucking lamb" (1Sa_7:9).

5. Deliverance Wrought. "The Lord thundered… and discomfited" (1Sa_7:10).

6. Testimony Given. "Hitherto hath the Lord helped us" (1Sa_7:12).
