COMPROMISING.

In the North of Scotland, and in the time of Rob Roy, wealthy farmers used to pay regularly what was known as "black-mail"-so much corn or money given annually to powerful robbers for their goodwill and protection. If Christians are to maintain friendship with the world and ungodliness, it will only be on the "black-mail" principle, that is by sacrificing so much of their good for the encouragement of the others’ evil. He that is the friend of the world is the enemy of God.
