0105. The Fight for the Faith
The Fight for the Faith
"That ye should earnestly contend for the Faith" (Jdg_1:3).
In Jude we are instructed by the Holy Ghost to "contend for the Faith", in Timothy we are urged to "fight the good fight of Faith". How can we contend for the Faith, and yet have fellowship with apostates who deny the Faith? God does not leave us with any uncertain sound as to this matter. In 2Jn_1:9-11 we read, "Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. * * If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: for he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds".
If many deceivers are gone forth into the world who neither confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, nor that He is coming in the flesh, how can those of us who believe, fellowship with them? Jude tells us that such men, sitting in our feasts of love, are hidden rocks.
Today we need to urge the pulpit to get back to the Bible.
Recently a pastor, on the Western coast, announced for his theme "Four and Twenty Black Birds." A friend who heard the sermon, wrote us that it was pitiful to sit in the audience and hear such slush.
We cannot contend for the Faith if we are preaching every fad and fancy, and presenting every scheme for social uplift and every world system for ethical advancement. We must preach the Word, if we would contend for the Faith.
