0115. Elisha, God's Missionary to Syria
Elisha, God’s Missionary to Syria
"And he returned to the man of God, and stood before him, he and all his company, * * and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel" (2Ki_5:15).
Review the story of Naaman. Throughout, it is easy to see the hand of God, in His great love, seeking to make Himself known to the great nation of Syria.
Syria’s great man, the honored and successful captain general of all her armies was a leper. Syrian bands had taken captive a sweet little Jewish girl, and had given her to Naaman’s wife for a maid. The child’s parents had mourned her fate, but God was moving in a mysterious way. The little girl was His missionary to the very threshold of the king himself.
The maid told of the Prophet in Israel; who could cure her master; Naaman told the king; then Naaman went down in great estate, to visit Israel’s king. Finally, he found the Prophet’s house, and was told to go down and dip himself seven times in Jordan. This he finally did, and his leprosy was cleansed. Then our verse, above, gives the result of the cleansing. This time, not the little girl, but the mighty Naaman goes down to Syria to make God known.
Truly God wanted Syria to come to the light of His salvation.
