0119. Daniel, God's Missionary to the Medo-Persian World-Empire
Daniel, God’s Missionary to the Medo-Persian World-Empire
"Then King Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.
"I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for He is the Living God, and stedfast for ever, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and His dominion shall be even unto the end.
"He delivereth and rescueth, and He worketh signs and wonders in Heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions" (Dan_6:25-27).
How wonderful is all of this! Medo-Persia was the second great world-empire. Little did Daniel know the power of the prayers he offered to God, as he prayed with his window opened toward Jerusalem. The plot of the big men in the kingdom went through. Darius signed their paper with his signet ring. The die was cast. Daniel knew of their trickery, but, still, he prayed. Then he was cast into the den of lions. But God was able to deliver him.
However, do not think that the Lord had only Daniel’s safety in mind; God was working to publish His power and His glory throughout all the world.
Oh, why did not these nations of the earth learn wisdom, and why did they not turn with their whole hearts unto God? God certainly wrought and wrought, with hands extended toward their faith. On occasions, such as we have mentioned, the nations seemed to halt in their God-forsaking ways, but soon they forgot the Lord and turned every one to his own way. They would not have the Lord to reign over them.
