The Early Church and Missions
Surely one who knows the Bible will be missionary in heart and deed. The first leading of a new convert is to bring some one else to Christ. This passion for the lost will not stop with those close at hand, but it will reach out to the regions beyond.
God, in His love, took in the whole world. The commission to the Church is to "go into all the world;" and to "every creature." City and State and Home and Foreign Missions are merely terms used to express the locality where evangelization is being carried on. One who says I believe in Home Missions but not in Foreign Missions is altogether out of the will of God, for with God it is to "the Jew first, and also to the Greek (Gentile)", and it is "to the uttermost part of the earth".
Among the words of Scripture which express what God expects of His Church, are such as the following: "Ambassadors," "Witnesses," "Lights," "Luminaries." Each of these words convey the thought of the Church busy in making God known.
All that we are in Christ Jesus, we are that we may show forth His glories. "For ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people"–why? "That ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvellous light".
