Rebekah Was Sought in Marriage

"And Isaac * * took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her" (Gen_24:67).

The story of Rebekah’s wooing, is delightful. In her distant home she was busy with her daily tasks. God had, however, marked her girlish beauty both of face and character. God had her in His heart. She had committed her all to Him, and He, in His own time, gave her the desires of her heart.

As she watered the camels of Eliezer, little did she know the errand of the trusted servant of Abraham: little did she dream of the joy that was soon to be hers.

When, however, Eliezer had delivered his charge and told of how God had laid His hand upon Rebekah, and marked her out as His choice for Isaac; then Rebekah did not hesitate for one moment.

With prompt sincerity she said, "I will go."

Marriage is not a matter to be considered apart from the biddings of God. Some one has said that "marriage is settled in Heaven." This certainly is not true of the majority of marriages, today. The frequency of divorce and the unhappy conditions in many places demonstrate that most marriages are undertaken apart from God.

God did choose Rebekah, and God will still choose for those who are walking in His plan and purpose. Therefore it is right, pre-eminently right for every youth to make marriage a matter of sincere and honest prayer. Surely it would be better for either sex, never to be married than not to "marry in the Lord."
