0180. The Long Journey Begun
The Long Journey Begun
"And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man" (Gen_24:61).
When the decision was made there was a delay suggested by the brother and the mother of Rebekah. They said: "Let the damsel abide with us a few days, at least ten; after that she shall go." Immediately Eliezer answered them, "Hinder me not, seeing the Lord hath prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master."
When a soul has decided for Christ, there should be no delay in making immediate journey in the new way. The Lord said, "If any one will come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.
When the Lord says, "Follow thou Me," it is not for us to respond: "Suffer me first to go and bury my father," or, "Let me first go and bid them farewell, which are at my home," for "no man putting his hand to the plow and looking back is fit for the Kingdom of God."
Rebekah was ready, and immediately she set out on her long desert journey. We too are crossing the sands, we are journeying over the deserts of separation.
"Here in this body pent,
Absent from Him we roam,
Yet daily pitch our moving tent,
A day’s march nearer home."
Let us start toward the Heavenly city today. Let us begin our journey toward the day of holy nuptials, the hour of our marriage to the King’s Son.
