Samson

The study of Scriptural biography is both inspiring and illuminating. The things which happened to the saints of old were written for our admonition upon whom the end of the ages is come.

Believers, if they studied carefully and prayerfully, both the failures and the victories of Old Testaments saints, would be in little danger of falling by the way.

Satan has but little left to spring upon the children of God, that he has not already sprung, in the days gone by. All we need to do, then, is to acquaint ourselves with his tactics of old, in order that we may fortify ourselves against his renewed onslaughts.

Few Bible characters speak to us more clearly and more positively than Samson speaks. He was specially called of God, separated from his birth, endowed with a marvelous faith, and endued with the power of the Spirit.

Samson made a good beginning, but he soon lost his place. He sold out to the devil. Instead of serving God he became an enforced slave of the devil. Samson, however, was restored, and, in his dying, he wrought out a victory against the enemy that he had never equaled in his whole previous career.

Let us thank God that His Word unfolds before us Samson’s faults and failures as well as Samson’s faith. May we profit thereby.
