Samson Was Especially Prepared for Service

"And the child shall be a Nazarite to God" (Jdg_13:7).

"And the child grew, and the Lord blessed him" (Jdg_13:24).

"And the Spirit of the Lord began to move him" (Jdg_13:25).

"The faith of * * Samson" (Heb_11:32).

1. Samson was a Nazarite unto God. That is, Samson was separated unto God from his birth. No razor was ever to come Upon his head, for his hair should remain the seal of his separation.

Is it not true that each of us is called to separation unto God? Are we not called out of the world? Are we not a special people for God’s possession? Are we not to come out from among them, and be separate?

Samson was never more definitely called to separation than are we, he was never more positively called to yield his all unto God than are we. God is continually calling us to present ourselves to Him, and our members as the instruments of righteousness unto Him.

The disciples were told to tell the man who owned the ass, upon which Christ was to ride into Jerusalem, "The Master hath need of him." Surely the Master, then, hath need of us. Who is there this day willing to hear His call and present himself as a living sacrifice unto Christ Jesus?

2. Samson grew up as a child and was blessed of the Lord. We who are called into His service may sometimes doubt our special blessings and preparations for the work of the Lord. But, if we will stop and look back, we will soon recognize what marvelous things the Lord has done for us, in order that we might be prepared unto every good work.

We have had the Holy Spirit especially sent from God to instruct us in the things of Christ. We have had the church with its ministry and the Word of God with its revelations of Christ. How wonderful-ly God has panoplied us for His work! From our infancy we have had every possible opportunity to be made meet for service.

3. Samson was moved by the Spirit of God. In those days this blessing was not granted unto all. The Holy Spirit was sent to special men, for special work. To-day it is different. God’s Spirit is here to endue all of us with power for service.

When the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon Samson, then he could break every band with which the Philistines might seek to bind him; then he could take the jaw-bone of an ass and slay a thousand men therewith.

When the Holy Spirit rests upon us, then we shall have power, and we shall be witnesses unto Him.

Men of the world know how to take hold of God’s power in the wind to run their ships; they know how to take hold of God’s power in the subtle electric current, to lighten their houses and to run their electric cars; they know how to take hold of God’s power in the water falls to generate tremendous force, and to conduct their mills.

Why should the children of light, then, who are in the Lord’s business, seek to run their affairs in the power of the flesh? Why do we not know how to take hold of God’s power in the Holy Spirit?

Perhaps we would make it clearer, if we put it this way. Why are we refusing to connect with the dynamo of Heaven, not that we use God’s power to do our work, but that He might clothe us with power to do His work?

4. Samson was a man of faith–He believed God. During the twenty years in the which he ruled Israel, many things must have occurred that led the Holy Spirit to enroll Samson’s name among the heroes of faith.

Stephen was a man full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. We cannot meet the hour of the church’s need, unless we have positive faith in God. Our successes in His service will be "according" to our faith. Faith holds a far more important place in the annals of the church’s achievements, than many of us are willing to admit.

Stop and consider what faith has wrought and you will begin to realize the omnipotence of faith’s achievements.
